Riverfront Ski Trip to Winter Park

Ski Trip
Winter Park
Ski Train (no driving)
Apres Party

Do I really need to say any more… (well maybe)

I was at a little Holiday Party last night chatting about an upcoming Riverfront Park Ski Trip on January 26th. The bullet points are that a car has been rented with only 62 seats available, several sponsors have signed up to give some perks to this first time trip crew that will be taking the Ski Train up and back followed by an Apres Party and a very close and cool spot downtown (Another wonderful sponsor).

No fighting traffic and it will be fun and social!! Siri at East West Urban Management is managing the rapidly growing list of folks who are snagging the seats for this inaugural event. You can email her if you are interested in learning more or if you are a homeowner in Riverfront you can
sign right up

It’s (NOT) a wrap… Eddie Murphy “Nowhereland” movie shoot (DOES NOT) end in Denver

filming0021.JPG

AFTER WRITING THE POST BELOW I NOTICED THE CREW SETTING UP AGAIN THIS AFTERNOON. TURNS OUT THEY HAD SOME BAD FILM FROM THE SHOOT A COUPLE DAYS AGO SO THERE WILL BE A REPEAT SHOOT TONIGHT. APPARENTLY, SOME FILM HEADING BACK LA GET THE SUPER X-RAY TREATMENT (OOPS SOMEONE FORGOT A LABEL) AND THEY NEED TO REPLACE THOSE SHOTS. THEW WILL BE RESHOOTING STILLS ONLY FROM WHAT THE WORD ON THE STREET IS AND THEY DO THE REST IN THE STUDIO USING BLUE SCREEN. SO FOR ALL YOU CELEBRITY SEEKERS THEY SAY THERE WON’T BE ANY ACTORS HERE TONIGHT. BUT THAT BIG OLD CRANE IS GOING UP FOR LIGHTING AND THE REGULAR CREW WILL BE HERE. THAT IS ONE EXPENSIVE OOPS.

I missed the first night of shooting here in Riverfront but did catch last night.

What can I say. It was cool to see. The team hanging between shots, chatting with the extras, watching Eddie do a boogie in the plaza… it was cool. I think part of the cool factor was seeing the same ground you walk on every day turned into a stage, with great special effects, tree lights and stage lights, and water trucks spraying rain transforms into a much different city scene. Filming to start soon

rockies00031.JPG
Filming might start as soon as tomorrow within the plaza at Riverfront Park. Everything is being kept under wraps as far as specifics on when Mr. Eddie Murphy will make his appearance but the set up looks to be close with lights and staging going in place today.

Here is the scoop from cbs4denver.com

(CBS4) DENVER The crew shooting Eddie Murphy’s new movie “Nowhereland” began filming Monday and the producer said filming in Denver is scheduled for 10 working days.

The movie tells a story of a busy father trying to connect with his daughter through her imaginary world, Nowhereland. The decision to set the film in Denver was based on aspects of the script.

“The writer had several choices,” said producer Lorenzo diBonaventura. “We had western motifs in our story and we decided Denver was the perfect city for us.”

Certain aspects of the characters also made the producers want to set the film in Denver.

The 10 days of filming will be mainly exteriors so that the movie will really have the feel of Denver and so far, the producers and crew have loved the experience.

“It’s a great town and what is nice for us is that has been under-utilized on film, so every place is a pretty fresh place to put a camera and as filmmakers, that’s exciting,” diBonaventura said.

“One of the great things is how welcoming everybody has been,” he said. “As filmmakers, that makes you feel really good because we are moving pretty fast and hard. If the people embrace you, it makes it easier for us, frankly, and makes you want to come back.”

Murphy stars as the father in the film. Newcomer Yara Shahidi stars as his daughter and Thomas Haden Church plays the other major role.

“Nowhereland” is currently slated to be released Sept. 26, 2008.

Pretty cool! The plaza will be famous again.

Go Around!

Bridge is closed

The Millennium Bridge in Riverfront Park is Closed. Workers are taking down the temporary stairs for the filming but that means a little detour for everyone who regularly uses this spot to get back and forth. The sign says closed through the 15th so its not too long of a wait.

The film crew working with Eddie Murphy is pushing this along a little faster and one of the crew members said that Mr. Murphy would be here in a week. The Plaza is certainly getting its fair share of attention this month.

There is, by the way, a courtesy shuttle taking folks from this side of the bridge to the other.

Looking good, Billy Ray! Feeling good, Louis!

The plaza in Riverfront Park was buzzing today with the planting of flowers, checking out the site, and getting ready for the actor who has been a favorite in such classics as Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop, and more. You got it, Eddie Murphy.

The rumor now is that as soon as Friday (maybe Thursday) the crew and Eddie will be in the plaza shooting for the new film. Eddie reportedly tried to book some rentals here in Riverfront Park but never found a place big enough or priced right for such a short term rental. Does that mean he is hanging out in the Hyatt… who knows. Either way maybe you can get picked up as an extra and be famous. One member of the actors guild told me today they are supposed to grab the first five extras are supposed to be members and then the general public comes next, but I don’t even know if Denver has that many members to show up. Either way FUN!!

The Denver post has more details about the movie here.

Temporary stairs on the way!

bridge0001.JPG
The first signs of activity are underway on the Millenium Bridge face lift. Workers today are assembling, very quickly, a temporary set of steps to enable the many travelers to cross the rail back and forth into Riverfront Park. This face lift is going to put some much needed granite steps in to further enhance this Architectural symbol for the area. Progress, Cool!
Of course today is also the evening of the very last Riverfront Park Fashion Series and the plaza could not be buzzing more with activity. Trucks and vans are unloading equipment, workers are putting the steps together, caterers are setting up chairs, and of course decorators are getting every last detail perfect for the evening.

Who doesn’t look good in Black?

Darth

Let’s face it, Black is the ultimate fashion color. Models and all the beautiful people live in black fashion. So do 007 and Darth Vader… along with most of NYC on any given day. And of course there are Black Tie parties, never pink or green tie parties. The ladies have 50 little black dresses and every guy has a slick black suit. So basically, in a fashion sense, black seems to rule.

This coming Thursday night the options for wearing black are going to be explored with the last big finale fashion series event at Riverfront Park. With food, wine, and of course the high energy Riverfront Crowd this is not an event to be missed. There is a catch. Tickets look to be selling out quick so if you want to go make sure to visit www.riverfrontparkfashion.com to get ticket information.

Little black dress

I just wonder if they will play AC/DC Back in Black to kick it off. I am guessing not.

By the way… Black is, scientifically speaking, not a color. A black object absorbs all colors of the visible spectrum and reflects none of them. It is, in effect, the anti-color. Kinda cool!!

Bridge Steps get face lift

The single most photographed bridge in denver is getting a much needed facelift over the next few months.

Originally designed to look beautiful, which it did, the bridge also collected water on the stairs causing a rust. Over the past couple years it has been repainted, and repainted, and repainted.

Well now it is getting a full overhaul with some beautiful granite stairs. It will be looking beautiful!

Here is that schedule for those of you who live or use the bridge regularly. The good news is that only one side gets the face lift at a time so you don’t have to worry about going around. Schedule from Riverfront Park.

DATES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE

Weeks beginning:

* 8/6 – Close Bridge Stairs and open temporary stairs for pedestrian access
* 8/6 – Remove center railing on Bridge Stairs

And for those who don’t know the exact details of this famous Denver bridge here is the quick scoop…

Denver Millennium Bridge Opens

Date: 26/04/2002

The Denver Millennium Footbridge was officially opened by the Denver Mayor, Wellington Webb, on Monday 22 April at a ceremony attended by city and state dignitaries as well as engineers, architects, and local residents.

Arup provided civil and structural design services from the beginning of 2000, and were present on site throughout the construction phase. The design team overcame the significant challenges presented by the complex geometry of the cable-stayed structure’s 200ft (61m) tall steel mast and unusually wide deck (80ft / 24m) to produce this spectacular structure.

and…

Millennium Bridge in Denver
One of the greatest hurdles architectural engineers faced in creating this beautiful bridge in LoDo was developing a clear span across 125 feet of railroad track while keeping the vertical elevation gain at less than 30 feet. They decided to develop a unique “cable stayed” solution using a tall mast to hang the deck. The mast was placed on the city side of the bridge visible from downtown. The cables to both the bridge deck and grade were arrayed from there. To make the structure as thin as possible a steel frame that derives its stiffness from tension applied to the thin structure of the deck was conceived. This “post-tensioning” was achieved by installing beams with engineered sag, then using the mast as a lever to pull up the deck with the cables into a shallow bow while the opposite end of the bridge is held down by two steel rods. Concrete was then applied pushing down the deck and applying tension to the cables. The combination of tension in the cables and the rods form a thin, stiff and stable deck assembly. The Denver Millennium Bridge was the first cable stayed bridge in the world to use this post-tensioned structural concept.

Think Red!! Riverfront Fashion this Thursday

riverfrontparkfashion.jpg

Better get shopping unless of course you already have a full stockpile of red fashion because this Thursday the plaza gets overtaken for the second Riverfront Park Fashion Series event.

The theme is red. Red what? Well that is up to you. Red shoes, red dress, red shirt, or maybe just a great red toga (not recommended). No matter what, it will be fun to see what everyone comes up with. And just think, if you spill that Merlot or blood orange mohito on yourself maybe, just maybe, no one will notice.

Seriously, this event is one of the funnest things about the summer and I will warn you ahead of time that the Friday after is a good time NOT to schedule a big meeting.

Check it out, order tickets, plan ahead for a cab, and put on your party shoes. See you there.
