Think Red!! Riverfront Fashion this Thursday
Better get shopping unless of course you already have a full stockpile of red fashion because this Thursday the plaza gets overtaken for the second Riverfront Park Fashion Series event.
The theme is red. Red what? Well that is up to you. Red shoes, red dress, red shirt, or maybe just a great red toga (not recommended). No matter what, it will be fun to see what everyone comes up with. And just think, if you spill that Merlot or blood orange mohito on yourself maybe, just maybe, no one will notice.
Seriously, this event is one of the funnest things about the summer and I will warn you ahead of time that the Friday after is a good time NOT to schedule a big meeting.
Check it out, order tickets, plan ahead for a cab, and put on your party shoes. See you there.

Microsoft does party at Rockies Stadium
Not that you aren’t all over fireworks, but wanted to share a quick update from a couple nights ago. It is rumored that Microsoft had a big old shing ding in Coors Field and set off their own set of fireworks for the event.
I wonder if anyone there had an iphone? Can’t imagine the heck one would catch for that. It’s probably like the old days where if you worked for General Motors and drove into the parking lot with a foreign car you had better believe your tires would be slashed and your car maybe with a bit worse by the time you tried to drive home.
At Microsoft, who knows. Perhaps it gets really rough where a bunch of Microsoft programmers beat them out of the gang, as it were, right after work. But these guys are techies, and I have to believe that quite a few are going to have a tough time resisting the new phone. If you know of anyone who works for Microsoft and has an Iphone, just let us know their treatment.

Funk Ball coming to Denver

Hey there everyone.
Well after being out of the country for a couple of weeks I have landed safely back in Denver and will be getting back on track with some updates, opinions, rants and raves. The first item I know about is this email I got today about the Funk Ball coming to Denver. Here is the scoop since they asked me to spread the word.
Hey Urban Brain,
I know that Laura, Citrus, and the rest of US Pipe & The Balls Johnson Dance Machine have been working really hard to promote the first annual FUNK BALL so I thought I’d lend a hand by sending out the DMB Newsletter. Here is what they had to say about the event…
The first annual FUNK BALL is droppin’ on Denver at the Oriental Theater on Friday, June 29, 7 p.m. Produced and hosted by U.S. Pipe & the Balls Johnson Dance Machine, who also headlines, the night will feature up-and-coming funk bands Nightown Band, the Demon Funkies, Caleb Riley Funk Orchestra, and the Denver Funk Mob, as well as the evening’s emcee, Azma.
This event is the first of its kind in the Mile High City and we are committed to bringing you the best, original, uncut funk. Dress up in your funkiest attire to win a plethora of prizes from our sponsors: Heads of State (who are also celebrating their 28-year anniversary), Parisi Restaurant, Tenn Street Coffee, and Patrick Carroll’s, in addition to cool stuff from all the bands: CDs, T-shirts, stickers, and more–every grab bag is worth $50 and more in giveaways! Demon Funkies are also giving away a trampoline, and we’re raffling off some really awesome high-end pieces from Heads of State, including a water pipe that retails for $159.99. New Belgium Brewing Company will be there with their latest, tastiest brew, MOTHERSHIP. Get free samples and buy it for a dollar off!
There is so much more to this party so go check it out at www.us-pipe.com as well as in this week’s issue of Westword, the Night & Day section! Tickets on sale now at www.theorientaltheater.com.
Have fun everyone!
Thanks for supporting local music!

Geez, it’s been awhile
Okay, Okay… I admit I have been a bit of a slacker lately. With this beautiful weather and the touch of spring, plus overall business, it has been quite awhile since I have had a post.
But I see I have alot of company in this regard. With such beautiful weather all the patios are open and FULL of happy socialites enjoying the end of the snow season. Zengo has opened up officially with their deck, Jax is always a great bet for outdoor sun and oysters, and of course the other multitude of locations downtown. [Read more →]

Being called the New York Survival Guide
I haven’t thrown out any good reads lately so after finishing “The Birthday Party: A memoir on Survival” I had to do a quick post.
The story isn’t fiction. This is the account of Stanley Alpert, an federal prosecutor in New York City, who was kidnapped and later released. I have to admit it isn’t the best literature in the world, but it is a story that you can’t put down and keeps you turning pages. Now on the New York Times Best Seller’s list, this book captures the curiosity and imagination of every urbanite.
What might happen to me? what are the risks I live with in the Big Apple (or other big cities). I think all these New Yorkers really are treating it as a survival guide to see what they should do. Sorry to disappoint you folks, but the bad guys are probably reading it too. Either way…. It’s just a fun read with enough interesting and entertaining characters to keep the story rolling nicely.
It is downright scary what goes on in some of the biggest cities in the world or those with the most crime. And it is certainly scary to think of being in the position that this story depicts, having your life in someone else’s hands.
Planning a spring break and need something to read on the beach…. take this and you will be glad to be sitting in the sun. You can read more and pick up the book here. Glad I’m in Denver.

Chillin’ by the Glass House Fire Pit

Last night was a wonderful party in the Glass House lounge. New residents who have moved in got a chance to meet, enjoy the newly created Glass House Martini or glass of wine, and eat sushi or other tasty treats.
A small group of us ended up outside by the Fire Pit, which I have never seen lit before. This is such a terrific spot for relaxing with the city views. There is just something about sharing stories and laughter around a fire that feels right. Maybe we have never evolved from the cavemen and sitting around the fire is in our most basic instincts.
Either way, it rocks.

The longest cab ride ever
Here is a story that will make you laugh.
Yesterday we were going to a friend’s house for a dinner party. Now you have to understand that we have a great policy of always taking a cab when we expect to be having a glass or two of wine. Usually that means less than ten dollars and a trip across town. Sometimes it’s more if we are going to the burbs for dinner and we can’t take the light rail. Either way, taking a cab is the right thing to do.
However this dinner party was in Evergreen. But we stayed with the same plan. The farther away it is, the worse it would be to drive. And since I lived in Vail for all those years and we took cabs across town all the time, I didn’t think there would be a problem.
I was wrong. [Read more →]

An oldie but a goodie - Wazee Supper Club

I mentioned in yesterday’s post that we headed out to an Av’s game. It was a last minute magic ticket, and we needed a good spot to grab a beer and some grub before the game. We narrowed it down to My Brothers Bar or Wazee Supper Club. We ultimately picked Wazee after finding out that a couple members of our group had never been there before.
How can anyone have never been to the Wazee Supper Club? Are you as shocked as I am. Then I realized [Read more →]
