Northwest corner of 15th and Platte moving forward

You know that boarded up ugly old building on the corner of 15th and Little Raven.  The one that is an ugly eyesore with the fenced off trash yard next to Confluence Park.  Yes, that one.

It’s coming down.  As I’m writing this I can see the cranes scraping everything away.  Does this mean that the Ray Supa project is moving forward?   They had that big vote/debate about the zoning changes last year (or has it been longer… I forget) to put in a tower structure.  Is this building coming down today because it was an eyesore that encouraged squatters or does this mean that a new project is about to be underway.  Demolition or Development… what is the next step?  Anyone have renderings of what the new corner will look like.

Meeting tonight about Tent University in Cuernavaca

After months of planning for the DNC a last minute change moves the Tent University Demonstrators from City Park to Cuernavaca Park. Nothing like throwing an additional 50,000 demonstrators into a neighborhood that only has a couple weeks to prepare for it.

City Park residents are happy because their expressed displeasure may well have gotten the Tent University demonstrators moved. Of course residents in Riverfront Park are less than pleased. With the 16th street corridor in the heart of Riverfront it is expected that Little Raven Street will become the corridor for access between Cuernavaca and the city.

Councilwoman Judy Montero is getting an earful from CPV residents unhappy with the move. Tonight, at 7 PM at the Flourmill lofts (2000 Little Raven St.) Judy will be list

Denver’s Best Neighborhood to Raise a Family

Family in Commons Park on the 4th

Family in Commons Park on the 4th

What makes a neighborhood a great neighborhood to raise a family? Which criteria matter the most? Would you say it was the school system, the public parks and playgrounds, or simple safety. What about the value of a dollar towards your real estate, because let’s face it people usually make the transition from [Read more →]

Not Stranger than Fiction

Sometimes the slice of life answers we dream up to make an exaggeration of life turn out to be true. Or sometimes there is just irony such as noticing at Tattered Cover the newly discounted “Spoiling for a Fight: the rise of Elliot Spitzer” book.

In this case the irony involved a post from roughly a month ago about Helicopters flying low and fast around Riverfront Park. My top 10 reasons for the fly by events included at #6 “Homeland Security practice drills”. These reasons were not meant to be realistic, more of a David Letterman tribute.  For example another reason was “The city doing an analysis of rezoning Commons’ park for a Wal Mart”.  But now that I think about it, real estate is getting pretty valuable.

But, as life proves to be ironic, reason #6 turned out to be true as part of the preparation for the DNC. Read about it in the 9 News article “Helicopters to keep flying over downtown for terrorist training“. I knew I should have made that item #1.

Walk Score

The above “Walk Score” is for the address of 1610 Little Raven Street, Denver Colorado 80202, the home of Zengo Restaurant and the heart of the plaza in Riverfront. The score (at least today when writing the post) is 83 or “Very Walkable”. How cool is this tool!!! 8-)

Walk Score calculates, on a scale to 100, how pedestrian friendly (walkable) your address is. If you are looking [Read more →]

A little rain won’t hurt

A little rain wasn’t going to stop these runners from taking on the Rocky Mountain Half Marathon this morning. I just wanted to show these die hard runners taking off in the rain on Little Raven Street in Riverfront Park and a few of the finishers.

Bikers in Riverfront

Riding in the Circle of DeathA couple folks have asked about a Cruiser Bike ride tonight and about getting a Riverfront Park crew to meet together at one of our local establishments, possibly McLoughlins (last week was Zengo). Others are asking about groups to do road bike rides.

I figured the easiest way to get folks talking was to connect them. So check out this link here, register once and you can post or subscribe to the topic.
