I've now been there twice and have loved it both times. First off the waitress shook our hand when she came up to us as we stood around - and then when we got seats at the bar, the bartenders did the same. I know it's unusual, but it fit into the whole ambiance of the place: friendly and professional.

I got a great drink - the smoking frenchman - and the second night got some rye drink, a french word that means "the square" (can't recall the name of it now). Also a great drink.

I also appreciate that they keep the numbers reasonable. There's nothing worse for me than cramming into a crowded bar. A+ for no TVs, B- on the music we heard -- why not music that fits the speakeasy theme?

Glad to have this bar in my hood!

And what a success to find Williams and Graham already getting mentioned in The New York Times Magazine today just days after they opened.

Wow, I live on the east coast but travel to Denver frequently. I am so tired of Larimer restaurants and the other ones scattered throughout Denver either have a franchise/plastic look or are thrown together from Crate and Barrel. Charcoal Restaurant definitely put thought into their decor. High end custom furniture, new wine wall mixed with antique chandeliers. The owner stopped at my table even when it was super busy and patiently explained the wine pricing (very very, did I say very reasonable) and business concept.
The service was outstanding, friendly without being too friendly and knowledgeable.
Have the gravolox.Best anywhere, period. Oxtail. Best anywhere period. Duck Confit-reminds me of one of the greatest meals I ever had in Paris, only more affordable and closer! Charcoal Restaurant is white hot!!

We were so excited to get our new puppy that we had forgotten to take our time and really research the process of picking out the right puppy for us. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this information as we look back we wished we would have researched our decision first. We feel so much more knowledgeable now that we have taken the time to learn about adopting our new puppy. Due to posts like this we've identified a reputable Denver Animal Hospital to go to, we enjoy our new veterinarian and our puppy is pleased and wholesome. I just wished we would have taken our time to learn about much more to begin with.

The folks at Doggy Archy really are caring dog lovers. Read about how the kindness they showed as I document the Urban New Puppy checklist. http://www.theurbanbrain.com/denver/index.php/2011/09/13/the-urban-puppy-checklist/

From the New York Times: http://goo.gl/4kdxM

Pretty good overview of car requirements. It is a challenge. People like cars, myself included. And, unless you live immediately downtown, getting around on a bike isn't the greatest. (And, even downtown, I find myself b-cycling through parking lots and on sidewalks just to avoid the scariness of cars mixed with bicycles in downtown Denver.) Very much a chicken and egg problem.

On a side note, I thought it pretty amazing that Greenwood Village requires 4 parking spaces be built for every 1,000 square feet of office space. In the Union Station neighborhood, the city requires no minimum but developers typically build about 1 parking space for every 1,000 square feet. Certainly hasn't kept people from moving in.

I guess alternative transportation just doesn't carry as large of an audience.
