The Police and Elvis at Red Rocks

The Police at Red Rocks

The Police at Red Rocks

Last night I had the opportunity to take a walk down memory lane. It was back to a time when I cruised around my small Ohio town in a 1974 forest green Beetle that had been outfitted with a high tech Sony Cassette system that fed tunes to the monster woofers in the back (supported on a home built plywood panel) and small Boston Acoustics cut and placed into the side boards. The stereo probably cost as much as the car which I had bought in Baltimore while living one of many summers eating Chesapeake Blue Crabs smother in Old Bay, Phillips Harborplace Oysters, and sliced fresh tomatoes with a touch of salt and pepper. But I needed great tunes in that car for it’s 8 hour drive back to Ohio. And one of the mixed tapes that surely be playing on that road trip would have included classic Elvis Costello and the Police, along with a myriad of other artists of that time. [Read more →]

Zombies, Zombies, Zombies

I gotta admit that I love the whole ZOMBIE genre. Whether it is the classic Night of the Living Dead or the more modern 28 Days the stories are classic. Who knows what the magical attraction is for the whole zombie culture but in terms of total books and movies they seem to be edging out Vampires and Werewolves in the horror popularity contest. But who doesn’t love a script riddled with characters whose only lines [Read more →]

R.E.M. at Red Rocks Last Night

R.E.M. at Red Rocks

Last night I was fortunate enough to attend my first (yes, my first) concert at Red Rocks for the R.E.M. concert with Modest Mouse and The National. And yes, I cannot count on one hand how many people were shocked that it was my first concert. Don’t ask me how that happened, I guess my days in the mountains were just too booked. However I was still a slacker for putting this event off for so long. Red Rocks is an amazing place and it was an amazing show. And with the news about Obama winning the Democratic Presidential Nomination the show had a special energy for R.E.M. Michael Stipe began an earlier set announcing that Obama would be our next President and went through a number of songs [Read more →]

What are you doing during the Democratic National Convention

I was cruising down the 16th street mall last week and noticed a bunch of DNC folks out talking to people. It may have been that they were working on this video that recently came out.

So here is my question.. what are you doing for the Democratic National Convention. I keep hearing folks talk about renting out their place. Of course, the stories keep growing and growing. While getting my hair cut last week I heard a story about 900 square feet going for $5000 a night for the 3 main nights. [Read more →]

Sutra Room Opens December 29th at 8:00 pm

Sutra Room opening in DenverWith a tag line of “Sundays are for Sleeping” the new Sutra Lounge is offering up an attitude of late nights, private VIP tables, and bottle service as they open the newest Denver night club.

The Sutra Room describes itself as a “sensous, sultry retreat for Denver’s social elite” with a dance club housing an “unforgettable organic candle lit entry”. Okay, I know I need to see that to understand it, but open flames at 2:00 am may be interesting all by itself (don’t have to many bubbles from the bottle service). DJ’s, drummers, 12 VIP booths, lavish bed spaces and raised bottle service area all sound like this new establishment is going for something often seen in cities like LA and New York. But we know that Denver is ready for this and our social elite are always ready to try a new edge. So make sure to be at the opening on December 29th at 8:00, and come back here to let us know how it is.

Located at 1109 Lincold Blvd. in Denver open Thursday through Saturday only from 8 PM to close.
