The Asylum Haunted House in Denver Truly Brings a SCARE!

Yes, it’s still Halloween and I am still blogging about all things Halloween in Denver. We visited the 13th Floor Haunted House on opening day and this past week we visited the other Screamworks Haunted House…. The Asylum.
Well I have to say that as much as we enjoyed our 13th Floor Experience we have to give the top rating to the Asylum for overall scare factor. So here’s how it happened…
I contacted my two friends from Boot Camp who joined me on my first Haunted House outing. These are the sort of friends who have that positive spirit that is easy to love. You know what I’m talking about. I’m sure you also have a mix of friends. Some fall into the “Hmmmmm…. I don’t know if I want to do that” group and others say an enthusiastic yes before you even explain the little adventure you have planned.
These two friends, Mike and Rachel, fall into the “heck yes” group. So we packed into Mike’s car (I’m still trying a scooter, bike, walking and public transportation lifestyle only) and headed up I-25 for the 10 or so miles up to the Asylum’s location. Fortunately Mike was there last year so we didn’t fall for the little bit of underhanded trickery we found when we arrived at our exit.
Someone has set up a smaller haunted house in the parking lot on the way to the Asylum and there is almost no way you could miss their Haunted House sign as you arrived. I’ll give them points for being clever, but not for being nice. It would be very easy for someone trying to locate the Asylum to mistakenly go here instead. Not bad, the Asylum has spent money on marketing and on reviews and these folks get the benefit. We all said “shame on you” and continued on the the real Asylum.
We, once again, had arrived early before the droves of people arrived to fill their lines. Mike said he had waited hours the previous year and we had no desire to experience that.
Anyhoo… let’s talk about the Asylum itself.
It was the best scary haunted house of the year. Without a doubt the team putting on this haunted house made it truly full of frights and surprises. The costumes and makeup were spot on and around every corner we held our breath, waiting for the something shocking. The three of us took turns being in front of the pack in the spot most likely to scream. With a mix of indoor and outdoor mazes the haunted house was a long path of scares.
My recommendation is go to the Asylum. Best marks for your haunted house selection of the year. Come back and share comments of what you thought and I’ll limit this review to that so I don’t ruin anything for your own experience.
