What, if anything, is Denver cutting back on?

So yesterday I posted about the slap that oil gave our economy. I have a different question for Denver today. Fortunately, the Denver economy has been stronger than many parts of the country (hey, we rock).

That being said, there are still some things that affect us. How many of you are cutting back, if at all, and what things do you pick to cut back on? I am genuinely curious. Do we keep our dinners out and cut back on gas? Do we stop shopping but still drive? Do we cancel our vacations or do we splurge and not worry because it’s all cyclical? You tell me. I don’t need to remind everyone that by stopping our spending we hurt the economy. Easier said than done.

What items, if any, are you reducing or eliminating in your spending based upon economic conditions?

Hey Mike,

Not really related to your post, but I noticed all the great stuff on your blog the other day and wanted to take the time to give you a heads up about an event in Denver next week being hosted by the Brookings Institution. We’re hosting a luncheon forum on July 22 and I thought that you or some of your readers might be interested in attending.

The event formally presents a new report we are releasing this Sunday that looks at the challenges facing the West and pressing need for federal policy reform to address issues of land use, immigration and population growth, and transition to a knowledge-based economy.

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter will open the discussion, with Brookings experts Bruce Katz and Robert Lang providing an overview of the report and its policy recommendations. Following that, a panel of Mountain region leaders will provide their responses to the report.

The event is free, but registration is required. You can find out more about the event and register online at the following URL: http://www.brookings.edu/events/2008/0722_metropolitan.aspx

Hope to see you there!
