It’s Bike to Work Day

Today is Denver’s Bike to work day and I am off to check out the party going on in front of REI.

Anyway, I have to get moving. Happy pedaling today!

Not Stranger than Fiction

Sometimes the slice of life answers we dream up to make an exaggeration of life turn out to be true. Or sometimes there is just irony such as noticing at Tattered Cover the newly discounted “Spoiling for a Fight: the rise of Elliot Spitzer” book.

In this case the irony involved a post from roughly a month ago about Helicopters flying low and fast around Riverfront Park. My top 10 reasons for the fly by events included at #6 “Homeland Security practice drills”. These reasons were not meant to be realistic, more of a David Letterman tribute.  For example another reason was “The city doing an analysis of rezoning Commons’ park for a Wal Mart”.  But now that I think about it, real estate is getting pretty valuable.

But, as life proves to be ironic, reason #6 turned out to be true as part of the preparation for the DNC. Read about it in the 9 News article “Helicopters to keep flying over downtown for terrorist training“. I knew I should have made that item #1.

Excuse the interruption

Costa Rica Sunset, would you want a phone call to chat at this moment

I am having trouble avoiding interruption.

I first began not simply noticing this, but focusing on this over the past week. I realized that I was spending far too much of my day checking email or performing some other technology tool task. While out walking my dog, I am checking email. When I first wake up I check email. While writing or working I am checking email. I find it is more than a bit distracting. [Read more →]

Riverfront Park Fashion Show Rocked the Plaza

Congratulations to Cline and her entire Fashion Show team on putting on what may be the best fashion show yet. The weather was perfect and fortunately our hurricane style winds from earlier that day stopped. I just thought I’d share a few picks [Read more →]

Walk Score

The above “Walk Score” is for the address of 1610 Little Raven Street, Denver Colorado 80202, the home of Zengo Restaurant and the heart of the plaza in Riverfront. The score (at least today when writing the post) is 83 or “Very Walkable”. How cool is this tool!!! 8-)

Walk Score calculates, on a scale to 100, how pedestrian friendly (walkable) your address is. If you are looking [Read more →]

What is the Best Neighborhood in Denver (The Shorter List)

One reader pointed out that my longer list of neighborhoods would be the statistical list of neighborhoods for Denver. Other readers had pointed out that the general list of Denver didn’t include enough of the specifics that are in the statistical list. I am open to ideas folks, the shorter list I use is the one I like so I am republishing the Overall Best Neighborhood in Denver poll using my General list (because it makes more sense to me).

For those of you who have ideas of what the list should be, and there are quite a few of you, please visit the forum and make your suggestions. Your opinions do matter. The way to be helpful is to share what you think the list SHOULD be, not what it shouldn’t be. Then folks can comment back and forth and maybe we will improve the list a bit. In the meantime, here is the poll revised. Happy voting!

A little rain won’t hurt

A little rain wasn’t going to stop these runners from taking on the Rocky Mountain Half Marathon this morning. I just wanted to show these die hard runners taking off in the rain on Little Raven Street in Riverfront Park and a few of the finishers.

What, if anything, is Denver cutting back on?

So yesterday I posted about the slap that oil gave our economy. I have a different question for Denver today. Fortunately, the Denver economy has been stronger than many parts of the country (hey, we rock).

That being said, there are still some things that affect us. How many of you are cutting back, if at all, and what things do you pick to cut back on? I am genuinely curious. Do we keep our dinners out and cut back on gas? Do we stop shopping but still drive? Do we cancel our vacations or do we splurge and not worry because it’s all cyclical? You tell me. I don’t need to remind everyone that by stopping our spending we hurt the economy. Easier said than done.

What items, if any, are you reducing or eliminating in your spending based upon economic conditions?
