1401 Lawrence Model

I saw this rendering and just wanted to share… :)
It’s got a cool exoskeleton which has been a cool new trend lately. I had just read in the New York Times about the cool new skyscraper being built by the Hines Group next to Moma there. The idea is that with a great deal of the structural supports on the external face of the building they can allow for larger and more open floor plans.
Of course one of the big plugs for this building in NYC is the integration of the museum with additional gallery space being contributed within the new Hines Development building.
Discussion about these new buildings centers on a more aggressive approach to architecture. Years ago the more conservative designs would have won out. This building in NYC makes it seem as if Howard Roark (You all know this book, right) is at the helm of these developers and the expectations for quality are high.
Either way, watch out for new twists on the structure of these towers and what can be done in terms of the external design and also the space within.

So glad you shared the 1401 rendering - it is actually a photo of the scale model of 1401 Lawrence found in the 1401 Lawrence sales centre. It is a very nice photo - not one from the developer but a visitor or media (?). I think I’ve only seen it in one other place (a blog I think).
If you are interested, there is more detail on the architecture of 1401 via a video of Peter Clewes - the architect. See

I am not sure what blogs it is on, probably a few since it is on a number of public forums such as skyscraper (where it is hopping around in discussion topic) and it’s being emailed all around. But credit goes to RMN according to skyscraper for the photo.
