Not our proudest moment. But then again it is Men’s Health Magazine not Scientific American.

Morning Photos

rollercoaster0001.JPG
Just wanted to share some pics (iphone style) from one of my favorite early morning Urban Denver paths. Grab your dog, your running shoes, or your bike and hit the trail at Confluence park heading towards Invesco. You can swing into Starbucks in REI for some java and then enjoy the sights of Elitch Gardens illuminated by the rising sun. Spectacular!! Don’t forget to wander into the Centennial Gardens that no one seems to know about.

Just thought a nice wrap up to this weekend would be to highlight some of this cities beauty. Now back to the work week… dang!! [Read more →]

Buffs rack up score on Nebraska, Callahan gone

Buffs beat NebraskaIn a high scoring game this past Friday the Buffs beat their nemesis Nebraska 65 to 51. The Cornhuskers squandered an 11-point halftime lead by allowing 34 consecutive points.

The next day Nebraska announced Callahan’s Departure. It will cost the university more than $3.1 million to buy out Callahan’s contract, which was to run through the 2011 season.

It was hinted to throughout the game on Friday that this was a pending event. From our cold seats in the stadium (which mattered little since we rarely sat down) many Nebraska fans throughout the stadium held up signs of “Adios Callahan” and Buff fans rooted for more years for Callahan. You know you are in trouble when your opponents love your coach.

But back to the game. It was fun. It was a blast. It wasn’t a defensive game and the points just kept adding up. First one, then the other. Fortunately Nebraska made some mistakes (why not go for it on 4 and 9?) and the momentum in the second half was amazing.

So here is a cheers for the Buffs. A nice way to wrap up the year and the students got to flood the field in celebration with the gorgeous view of the mountains in the background. Nice!vail0006.JPGvail0009.JPGvail0013.JPG

Scared for Homeowner Rights

Happy Thanksgiving
The news has been a little disturbing lately. First there was the story in Boulder entitled “Lawyers Awarded Property Next Door” and then today the Denver Post’s article “Land grab should be condemned” appeared.

Go ahead and take a minute to read both articles. Don’t worry, I’ll wait. [Read more →]

Snow… finally! And COLD

cold.JPG
Passing through Vail today and happy to report that snow finally hit. With reports of only a few inches at Vail, Beaver Creek, and Summit it’s nothing spectacular but it is a step in the right directions.

And it is COLD!!! Took a quick shot of the temperature outside from my car in the wee hours of the morning and they are expecting -5 tonight in the Vail Valley.

That means snow is being made.

Vail officially opened today and Beaver Creek moved it’s opening from today to Friday. Pray to the snow gods everyone!!

1401 Lawrence Model

1401 Lawrence
I saw this rendering and just wanted to share… :)

It’s got a cool exoskeleton which has been a cool new trend lately. I had just read in the New York Times about the cool new skyscraper being built by the Hines Group next to Moma there. The idea is that with a great deal of the structural supports on the external face of the building they can allow for larger and more open floor plans. moma190.jpg Of course one of the big plugs for this building in NYC is the integration of the museum with additional gallery space being contributed within the new Hines Development building.

Discussion about these new buildings centers on a more aggressive approach to architecture. Years ago the more conservative designs would have won out. This building in NYC makes it seem as if Howard Roark (You all know this book, right) is at the helm of these developers and the expectations for quality are high.

Either way, watch out for new twists on the structure of these towers and what can be done in terms of the external design and also the space within.

Check out the New York Times Article “Next to MoMA, a Tower Will Reach for the Stars”

Riverfront Runners

fall-jogger-oct-04-email.jpg
Okay, Okay, I need to get in better shape for the ski season. The lack of snow has bought me a little time to get myself tuned up and since there are so many runners out there I thought I’d throw out an idea for a Runners Group down here in the CPV, meet at the plaza and take off from there. It just needs some folks to take the lead and volunteers would be great. Here is a link.

Crisis Management takes note on blogging the Rockies

Crisis Management
In a fun twist the blogging on the recent Colorado Rockies ticket snafu got noticed by some folks involved at Bernstein Crisis Management PR Firm.

These folks have taken an interesting angle on blogging with regards to the immediate availability of news through the blogging community over status quo news agencies. Basically if you want to find out what is happening you might be better off doing a google or technorati search instead of just hitting the standard news channels. The reasoning is simple, with cell phone cameras (both photo and video) and sites such as youtube or personal blogs regular joes like you and me can be giving the rest of the world news faster than organized news channels. Interesting and fun for this blog to have gotten a little press so I hope you don’t mind my sharing. [Read more →]

Ohio State Beats Michigan 14 - 3

Buckeyes WinI ran into one of my neighbors during the 3rd quarter of the game when the score was already 14 - 3. He is a loyal Michigan fan so we always have a few comments for each other this time of year. He had gone to Crocs, the legendary Buckeye bar for part of the game. I don’t think it was much fun for him, especially as points started to add up on the board in the Buckeyes favor. So he left but did have a couple of pics of the cheering Buckeye crowd on his cell phone.

I asked him if I could get a couple for this blog post and he started to reach for his phone and then paused… the wheels in his Michigan mind moving very, very slowly…. and he said no.

Guess he didn’t want to be a contributor to this blog entry and I can understand. 89 total yards for the Michigan offense. 222 yards alone for Beanie Wells. And all of it on Michigan’s home field.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -Jim Tressel got the best of Lloyd Carr again, maybe for the last time.

Tressel became the first Ohio State coach to beat Michigan six times in seven years, and the seventh-ranked Buckeyes’ 14-3 victory Saturday over their archrival gave them consecutive outright Big Ten titles for the first time in a half-century.

Chris Wells ran for a career-high 222 yards and two touchdowns and Vernon Gholston and the Buckeyes’ defense dominated Michigan’s banged-up offense.

The Buckeyes (11-1, 7-1 Big Ten) are likely headed to the Rose Bowl for the first time since 1997. They also hold onto slim hopes of climbing back into the BCS title game, but several teams ahead of them would need to go down.

Go Buckeyes!!Ohio State Beats Michigan 14-3
