The Beach Brain
Okay, maybe it is just the warm weather but I have got Mexico and the beach on my brain and I can’t let go.
After returning from a great long weekend in Tulum Mexico, which by the way rocks, I can’t stop thinking about the beach and real estate there. Tulum is a wonderful little town about an hour and a half from Cancun. It used to be a spot where nothing existed, and now it is still pretty basic with small hotels and bungalows dotting the beach front. Each little spot has its own restaurant (for the most part) that serves tasty local food in in open air environments with ocean breezes. It was awesome.
So of course I look at this wonderful place that now has the ability to title land and I think to myself..
“self, you know that a direct flight on Frontier means you can be in Mexico for a few days any time you want to… maybe this is a better second home than the mountains”.
And you know what, it might be. I am trying to learn more about this spot that is becoming so second nature to the U.S. that I think in a few years the “affordable” beach front that might be available will all be gone. Last year, the Dallas Morning News reported that more than 1 million Americans now live in Mexico, at least part time, five times the number of 10 years ago. The U.S. State Department reported that 385,000 people live there year round and that was in 2004. How many today I can’t even imagine.
And what a great little spot to be able to retreat to in the future. Imagine being able to slip away for a month and live on the beach whenever you wanted to. I gotta figure this out.
So Denverites, share your comments on this one. What is the good, the bad, or the curious about Mexico for a second home.
What a cool city we live in. We can be skiing Vail one day and on the beach the next. This city rocks.
