Early Morning Photo
Just shot this with a camera phone, so not great resolution.
This wacky pattern is a series of duck prints on the snow near the Platte trail in front of Flour Mill Lofts. Guess they had a dance party.

Not in a taxi
I just wondered how many of you have had this experience. I was waiting for a cab, in this case to go to the doctor because I wanted to get rid of this holiday cold that I caught. After waiting for well past the required time a cab finally arrives to pick me up.
And how wonderful, the driver is smoking with the window down. I had already waited too long for a cab to get a new one, and the cab was already full of smoke, which carried on to me for the next hour. Now I have had my late late night, and have enjoyed a cigar with Cognac with the boys. But this was just gross, and my cold made it even worse.
So… what gives. Isn’t it illegal to smoke in cabs. I was just thinking this was the middle of the day. What if I was on my way to an event, or even more importantly what if I was with my lovely lady and we were on our way to an event. We don’t want to stink as soon as we get there, or hop on a plane with that on us for the whole trip. I just plain sucked. Tell me if this has happened to you, or share your best/worst cab story in commenting because I am sure everyone has one, and probably worse than mine.
Maybe karma will give him my cold.

Little bits of kindness
The 16th street mall is lined with benches. Most of these benches people never look at, whether they are empty or occupied. Part of that reason is that if they are occupied it may be by someone who is homeless, or at least appears to be.
Today as I was walking by Wells Fargo I witnessed a young woman doing a simple act of kindness. She was average height, average build, with a splash of green in her spikey medium length hair. In her hands were two carry out containers, and it was clear by her angle as she crossed 16th that she had just headed out of Illegal Petes. She headed up to a large man who had been sitting, bundled up in an old fraying red winter coat. I knew this man, or I should say I recognized him. For as long as I can remember, which isn’t that long of a tenure downtown, he has sat on a few select benches on 16th street on most every day I walk it. His favorite spots are across from the Tattered Cover, or just in front of Wells Fargo Bank.
He is often sleeping, or at least resting quietly with his eyes closed. He never bothers anyone, at least that I have seen, and only on the rarest occasion do I see him speaking with someone else who has joined his bench. I don’t know who he is, I don’t even know his name. [Read more →]

Update on the Red Lion Development
Just an update from an earlier post I had on this project.
Contract to build on Red Lion lot nixed
Article Created: 01/02/2007 08:42:04 PM MSTDENVER - Developer Phil Kaplan has ended his contract to buy the Red Lion Hotel parking lot near Invesco Field, said a representative of Mile High Hotel Ventures, which owns the parcel.
Mile High still plans to convert the parking lot to a residential condo complex or pursue other “value-added development strategies,” Ken Okajima, managing director of the hotel company, said in a recent e-mail.
Kaplan, managing partner at Place Properties, has declined to discuss plans for the site. Others who saw preliminary plans said they called for two 20-story condo towers.
The Red Lion Hotel building was not part of the contract, Okajima said.

Riverfront Park updates us on City House (Glass House II)

Our team at Riverfront Park did an announcement on the website that the land has been purchased for City House, which many people have called Glass House II. Getting the land is one big sign that exciting things will be happening soon.
What great timing with folks starting to move in to Glass House (I) next week on January 8th. And I expect this is great news for everyone who wanted to get into Glass House but didn’t. Plus I thought the rendering just looked cool and watching the first one go up was so exciting, I can’t wait to see the second one go up.

Happy New Years!
Happy New Years Eve to Everyone! This year I joined some new friends at a home in Breckenridge for some wonderful food, excellent company, and much laughter. After fighting off a cold from non stop travels, events, and moves I finally got knocked down and my energy and voice only made it till minutes after midnight. But it was still a wonderful New Years Eve and I remembered my love of the mountains. For all my Urban Braining, perhaps I have a Mountain Heart. Denver is wonderful for allowing us the best of both worlds.
I hope everyone had a wonderful New Years Eve and here is to an even better 2007! My best to everyone.
